Nioxin is a luxury, hi-tech hair care system inspired by skincare – designed specifically for thinning hair. It’s been around since the late 80’s in the US but has just recently launched in the UK with the help of celebrity brand ambassador Sophie Ellis Bextor.
The hair care system is designed to retune your hair and scalp, with an innovative tailor made treatment – both for men and women – to help improve the health of the scalp and restore a thicker, fuller look to your hair.
I recently attended a launch event at the Michael John salon in Mayfair to find out a bit more about the brand. The science bit comes from years of research on what causes thinning hair – originally being founded by Eva Graham after she experienced thinning hair after the birth of her first child, so explored the idea of treating the scalp with skincare methods.
It as really interesting to discover all the contributing factors over a lifetime that can contribute to thinning hair including genetic factors, nutrition, physical stress, health issues and even medication. Nixion have recognise 3 main factors causing hair thinning:
- Scalp environment – build up of sebum and dead skin cells can affect how hair looks
- Growth cycles
- Structure of the hair – changes over time due to wear and tear, chemical treatments and age
Using this knowledge as the basis for developing their hair care system, Nioxin have created a 3-step system to ensure a healthy scalp results in healthier looking hair.
- Specialist cleansing for hair and scalp to remove sebum, residue and pollution
- Conditions and protects hair, which helps reduce hair loss through breakage
- Optimises hair by thickening each strand of hair for a fuller look
Although formulated with science at the forefront, the Nioxin hair care system is full of natural ingredients including white tea extract, peppermint oil, antioxidants, botanical extracts, kukui nut oil and silk amino acids to leave the scalp clean, clear and healthy whilst conditioning and strengthening hair.
The lovely people at Nioxin have given me a 30-day hair care system to trial – which I’ve passed onto a friend with thinning hair – so watch this space for the results!
To help raise awareness for the sometimes taboo subject of hair thinning, Nioxin is sponsoring this year’s
Thinning Hair Awareness Week starting 18th February 2013 in conjunction with the Institute of Trichologists .
During the week, industry specialists and consumers will gather to better understand all aspects of hair thinning as well as the different consequences and measures that can be taken to combat the issue. Find out more here.
