Backstage Chanel 2012 Spring Summer Haute Couture Show – Chanel Blue Illusion makeup collection
Yesterday I showed you the new Chanel Le Vernis Sky Line nail polish from the Chanel Spring Summer Haute Couture show and today I’ve got a whole host of lovely backstage pics of the hair and makeup and all of the information about the new Chanel Blue Illusion makeup collection.
Uncle Karl briefed Peter Philips the Creative Director of Chanel Make-up to create a ‘blue’ look that didn’t make the models look like stewardesses (seeing as the whole show took place in a jumbo jet!). So the look is a focus on the eyes and a touch of pearl on the nails.
I absolutely love this look – so beautiful and so wearable. I can’t wait to try and recreate it myself!
To make up the eye, Peter Phillips created a new intense blue eye pencil, Chanel Blue Aérien and used it to contour the whole eye. He also created two new Chanel Illusion d’Ombre eyeshadows (ooh how exciting!):
- Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Apparition – an intense, greyish blue eyeshadow
- Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Destination – a pale, silvery satin blue eyeshadow
The eyes were finished with Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara in Black and a deep blue line in the eye with Chanel Crayon Khôl in Marine.
Finally the lips were lined with Chanel LE CRAYON LÈVRES Precision Lip Definer in Natural and filled with Chanel ROUGE COCO Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Superstition and Chanel JOUES CONTRASTE Powder Blush in Rose Ecrin was used to give the cheeks a subtle flush!
And of course the models’ nails were painted with the new Chanel Le Vernis Sky Line nail polish.
The Chanel Blue Illusion makeup collection is a limited edition collection and will be available from July 2012.
Beth Ditto for MAC makeup collection announced
It seems to be all about the MAC for me at the moment! I’m not sure why, but everywhere I go see or hear something else about MAC! The latest news is that MAC has signed up Beth Ditto to collaborate with on a makeup collection.
Hmmm a Beth Ditto makeup collection could actually be pretty fabulous! She always (well maybe not always, but often) has fabulous makeup – bright lipsticks and heavy eye makeup.
This photo of Beth Ditto is from WWD
And here is a wee video of Beth Ditto performing live at MAC for Fashion’s Night Out…
As soon as I hear more about the Beth Ditto for MAC makeup collection, I’ll let you know!
Trilogy Helping Hand Wash – charity hand wash for Child’s i foundation
Trilogy have released a gorgeous hand wash called Trilogy Helping Hand Wash to celebrate 10 years of gorgeous skin care, but it’s not just about Trilogy patting themselves on the back! To celebrate their 10 years in business they’ve launched a charity partnership with the Child’s i Foundation, a charity that works to help abandoned babies and vulnerable mothers in Uganda.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of Trilogy Helping Hand Wash will be donated to the Child’s i Foundation.
Trilogy Helping Hand Wash combines the natural antibacterial properties of Elderberry and Burdock with natural vegetable oils in an effective, low foaming liquid soap. The hand wash has a really creamy consistency and has Trilogy’s signature fragrance of frankincense, rose geranium and lavender, which I love!
You can buy Trilogy Helping Hand Wash at boots and it costs £13.50
Iris Apfel for MAC lipstick swatches
I was lucky enough to test out three of the Iris Apfel for MAC lipsticks yesterday (unfortunately not lucky enough to buy any though – sold out!).
The Iris Apfel for MAC makeup collection is a MAC collection that I could actually get really excited about, the fabulous bright colours are right up my alley, so I was really keen to see how the colours translated from the MAC promo pictures to real-life.
I tested three of the Iris Apfel for MAC lipsticks and let me tell you in real-life they are amazing! They’re so bright, so creamy, so perfect!
The three colours I tested were:
- Iris Apfel for MAC Scarlett Ibis lipstick – a bright warm red lipstick
- Iris Apfel for MAC Pink Pigeon lipstick – a bright cool pink lipstick
- Iris Apfel for MAC Party Parrot lipstick – a bright warm pink lipstick
The picture above was taken in natural light, but not direct sunlight. My favourite is MAC Party Parrot lipstick – it’s amazing!
Here’s a picture of all three Iris Apfel for MAC lipstick swatches in direct sunlight, so you can see them in a different light.
So I missed out on the Iris Apfel MAC lipsticks, but I did manage to nab the Iris Apfel for MAC Oriele Orange nail lacquer, which I will use as soon as humanly possible and post the results!
Did anyone actually manage to get any of the lippies?

Minx nails for Dancing on Ice
In keeping with tradition, Minx nails have been the manicure of choice for the Dancing on Ice contestants and judges this year and here are all the behind the scenes pictures for you to take a peek!
UK nail stylist and Minx expert Kimberly Crossman did all of the Minx nails for Dancing on Ice and she took all of these behind-the-scenes photos as well. Above is Jorgie Porter wearing classic Silver Lightening Minx for her appearance on Dancing on Ice.
Heidi Range is wearing a combination of Strawberry Smoothie Shellac, layered with Joey Minx for her performance on Dancing on Ice, which looks cute. But goodness me – how about that makeup and that fake tan?! Scary!
Chemmy is wearing Celtic Cross Minx.
Even the boys got in on the sweet Minx action, with Matthew Wolfenden chose Black with Silver Flames Minx.
Mark Rhodes’ partner Frankie is wearing one of my favourite Minx designs, Black and Silver Checkers Minx.
Diet-guru Rosemary Conley is wearing Silver Hourglass Minx.
Finally is Dancing on Ice and all-round ice skating legend Jane Torvill…
Jane is wearing Silver with Gold Swirls for her Dancing on Ice appearance.
You can have a look at all of my Minx posts for loads more Minx pictures and designs!
New Superdrug Nail Art pens – preview
It’s no secret that I love my nail art and I love using my Sally Hansen Nail Art pens, but for those of you in the UK, Sally Hansen can sometimes be a bit difficult to get your hands on… well today an email popped into my inbox from Superdrug, letting me know about the new Superdrug Nail Art pens!
These new Superdrug Nail Art pens look very similar to the Sally Hansen Nail Art pens, which are so easy to use, because you just draw straight onto your nails as if you were using a regular pen.
The only problem is, these new Superdrug Nail Art pens only come in pink and silver. I think black and white would have been a better place to start!
Superdrug Nail Art pens will cost £4.99 and will be available from April. I will try and get my hands on some before them to test out, so I can let you know what they’re like!
Red Tuxedo manicure inspired by Zooey’s Golden Globes manicure
So after I posted Zooey Deschanel’s Tuxedo manicure she wore for the Golden Globes, I decided that my gorgeous Kourt is Red-y for a Pedi nail polish would look fabulous as the base for a red tuxedo manicure.
This tuxedo manicure was so super easy to do. I used Sally Hansen nail art pen to draw on the bow tie, spots and tips. Some of it is a bit wobbly, but that can easily be fixed with a wee bit of practice!
Daphne Guinness for MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme swatches
I wasn’t too keen on the look of any of the Daphne Guinness for MAC makeup collection from the promo pics, but I decided to take a closer look at the Pro Longwear Lipcreme lipsticks when I spied them at the mall the other day.
There are four lipsticks in the Daphne Guinness for MAC collection, but there were only 3 lipcremes in the MAC store for me to test out. The three that I have to show you are:
- Daphne Guinness MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme Warp Speed – a pale silver shimmer lipstick
- Daphne Guinness MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme Seasoned Plum – a cool purple lipstick
- Daphne Guinness MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme Approaching Storm – a dark browny red lipstick
So after testing these out has my on the Daphnee Guinness for MAC Pro Longwear Lipcremes changed? Not really I’m afraid! I didn’t like any of these three lipsticks in real life!
The texture of both Seasoned Plum and Approaching Storm is lovely; smooth, creamy and opaque. Warp Speed lipcreme on the other hand was thin and a bit lumpy and the colour? Talk about corpse lips!
The other two colours that I tested were pretty enough, but nothing special in my view. So nope, my mind has definitely not been changed when it comes to the Daphne Guinness for MAC lipsticks! I cannot wait however, to check out the Iris Apfel for MAC collection as soon as it makes it here!
The top images of Daphne Guinness and the lipcremes are from the MAC website
